Teeth Whitening
Teeth whitening can be done with either in office or at home treatments. Significant lightening of the teeth can be achieved although results cannot be guaranteed.
Care must be taken to perform whitening properly. Improper techniques can result in harm to the gums and sometimes even the teeth. These risks are seldom serious and should not discourage you from having your teeth whitened.
Just about anyone is a candidate for teeth whitening. However, people with dark yellow or yellow-brown teeth tend to whiten better than people with gray or bluish-gray teeth. Multi-coloured teeth, especially if due to tetracycline, do not whiten very well. Teeth with many fillings, cavities, chips, etc., are usually best treated by bonding, porcelain veneers or porcelain crowns. Whitening will only have an effect on natural tooth structures.

In Office Whitening
In office treatments can sometimes be performed in one visit but occasionally need multiple visits depending on how your teeth respond to the whitening gel. Your appointment can range from 1-2 hours.
The advantage of in office whitening is that it is completed in less time than a home care system. As a result, this tends to be a more expensive option than an at home whitening kit.
Take Home Treatment
Custom whitening trays can be fabricated by your dentist. They can be made and ready to insert in approximately 2 days. The trays are thin and transparent and fit on your tooth surfaces.
Application of the whitening gel supplied by your dentist is placed sparingly into the trays on the desired teeth to whiten. Depending on the strength of the whitening gel you may wear the tray 30min per day or possibly overnight. Generally, to achieve the best whitening result this process is done daily for 1-2 weeks. An advantage of the take home system is that you can stop the process at any time once you are happy with the result.
Day: This take-home kit is worn for 15 minutes up to twice a day for 2 weeks. It includes custom-made whitening trays and four syringes of whitening material. This treatment is great for patients who cannot sleep with trays overnight and have low to no tooth sensitivity.
Night: This take-home kit is worn at night for 2 weeks while you sleep.This treatment achieves excellent whitening results and is ideal for patients with high to low tooth sensitivity.
